The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, introduced in the academic year 2006-07, aims to encourage higher technical and professional education for the dependent wards and widows of Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Coast Guard personnel. Scholarships Available :
  • Total Scholarships : 5500 wards / widows of Ex-servicemen selected annually.
  • Division : Scholarships equally divided between boys and girls (2750 each).
  • Duration : Scholarships awarded for 1 to 5 years, based on course length approved by regulatory bodies.
  • Payment : Scholarship amount paid annually.
  • Scholarship Amount :
    • Boys : ₹2500 per month
    • Girls : ₹3000 per month
To apply for the Kendriya Sainik Board Scholarship :
  1. Go to the official website of Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB). The website URL is usually www.ksb.gov.in.
  2. If you are a new user, you’ll need to register on the website. Provide the required details to create an account. If you already have an account, log in using your username and password.
  3. Look for the section related to scholarships or financial assistance on the website. It may labeled as “Scholarship Schemes” or similar.
  4.  Read the guidelines and eligibility criteria for the scholarship scheme you are interested in. Ensure that you meet all the requirements before proceeding.
  5. Complete the online application form with accurate and relevant information. Provide details such as personal information, educational background, family details, etc., as required.
  6. Upload the necessary documents as specified in the application form. These documents may include proof of identity, educational certificates, income certificate, etc.
  7. After filling out the form and uploading the documents, review all the information provided. Make sure everything is accurate. Then, submit the application online.
  8. Once the application is successfully submitted, you may receive a confirmation message or email. Note down any reference number or confirmation details for future reference.

Students Eligible for Scholarship :
  • Eligibility limited to students enrolled in the 1st year (excluding Lateral Entry & Integrated Course)
  • Application process conducted online via KSB web portal ksb.gov.in
  • Minimum academic requirement of 60% or above in 10+2 / Diploma / Graduation
  • Ineligibility for students in 2nd year or beyond, except for integrated courses
  • Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Coast Guard personnel’s dependent wards and widows eligible
  • Civilians and Para Military Personnel’s wards not eligible.
Priority for Grant of Scholarship :
  • Category 1: Wards & Widows of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel killed in action.
  • Category 2: Wards of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel disabled in action and boarded out of service with disability attributable to Military / Coast Guard service.
  • Category 3: Wards & Widows of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel who died while in service for causes attributable to Military / Coast Guard Service.
  • Category 4: Wards of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel disabled in service with disability attributable to Military / Coast Guard Service.
  • Category 5: Wards & Widows of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel in receipt of gallantry awards.
  • Category 6: Wards / Widows of ESM / Ex Coast Guard personnel (PBOR Only).
Eligible Courses :
  • Eligible courses include , B Tech, BDS, MBBS, B Ed, BBA, BCA, B Pharma, etc., recognized by relevant Government Regulatory Bodies.
  • Master Degree Courses, except for MBA / MCA, are not eligible for PMSS.
  • Students studying abroad are ineligible for the scheme.
  • Distance learning courses are not permitted under PMSS.
  • PMSS can only availed for one course.
Scholarship for Integrated Courses :
  • Minimum al Qualification (MEQ) for PMSS applicants pursuing integrated courses is 10+2.
  • Applicants must upload mark sheets of 10+2, as well as those from the 1st and 2nd years (all semesters) if the 1st course is non-professional.
  • Integrated courses fall into two categories:
    • Courses where both degrees are professional/technical ( e.g., +ME, B.Tech+M.Tech, BBA+MBA ) : Only the first professional degree is eligible for scholarship.
    • Courses with the first degree as academic (non-professional) and the second degree as professional/technical (e.g., BA+LLB, B.Com+LLB, B.Sc.+B.Ed.) : Scholarship is awarded for the professional part of the course only.
  • Students pursuing integrated courses with one professional and one non-professional degree will receive scholarship for the professional portion only.
  • For integrated courses with a non-professional 1st degree and professional 2nd degree, students must have completed the previous two years of the non-professional course without repetition, RA, or failure to remain eligible for scholarship.
  • The regulations for PM Scholarship in integrated courses are further detailed below.

Minimum Eligible Marks in MEQ :

The Minimum al Qualification (MEQ) varies for different professional courses. For instance, MBBS requires a 10+2 qualification, while / B Tech accepts 10+2 / Diploma. Graduation is necessary for courses like B.Ed and MBA. To eligible for the PM Scholarship Scheme, candidates must have a minimum of 60% marks in MEQ, calculated across all subjects including optional ones, rather than from the best subjects.

Acknowledgement of Scholarship Amount from Students :
  • Upon receiving the scholarship amount from KSB, students must update Column 14 of the Renewal Application.
  • This can done by logging into their KSB account using the provided Log ID & Password.
  • They need to enter the ‘DATE OF PAYMENT AND AMOUNT RECEIVED’ in two separate columns.
  • It is a mandatory audit requirement to maintain eligibility for PMSS.
  • Failure to update this information will result in scholarship cancellation, and any disbursed funds will recovered.
  • The SAVE BUTTON is provided at the bottom of Column 14.
  • This action should completed promptly upon receiving each instalment of the scholarship
Additional Considerations for Ex-Servicemen / Students Regarding PMSS :
  • Students should promptly respond to SMS/email notifications received from Kendriya Sainik Board.
  • The email and mobile number provided in the application must belong to the student, with the alternate mobile number permitted for Ex-Servicemen (ESM).
  • Once registered, the email and mobile number cannot changed, as all communications will sent to these registered contacts.
  • If any observations are raised during the application review by ZSB/RSB and KSB, they must rectified within 10 days to prevent automatic rejection of the application.
  • Between January and May, KSB handles the processing, selection, and merit list preparation for new applications (1st year students), while renewal applications are processed and paid throughout the year except during this period.
  • Students/ESM should regularly check the status of their application by logging into their KSB account.
  • Although the application status may show as pending on the student dashboard, it may still in the process at different levels/functionaries at KSB.
  • Students studying abroad or in distance learning programs are ineligible for PMSS.

  1. Visit the official website ksb.gov.in.
  2. Navigate to the login section, usually located at the top right corner of the homepage.
  3. Enter your login credentials, including your username and password. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need to create an account first.
  4. After logging in, look for the option to check application status. This might found in the dashboard or a specific section dedicated to application status.
  5. Click on the appropriate link to view your application status.
  6. Once you access the application status page, you should able to see the current status of your application, whether it’s pending, under review, approved, or rejected.
