The Rajasthan government has introduced the Gopal Credit Card Yojana, inspired by the Kisan Credit Card, to offer short-term loans of up to ₹100,000 to small and marginal farmers. This initiative was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Rajkumari Divya Kumari on February 8, 2024. Its goal is to help farmers buy agricultural equipment, which will boost farming activities and improve their livelihoods. The scheme reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring financial stability for the agricultural community by providing interest-free loans and an online portal for easy applications.

Also, it aims to support animal husbandry, which creates jobs and provides daily income in rural areas. State Minister for Cooperation (Independent Charge) Gautam Kumar Deka highlighted that under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s guidance, this scheme represents an important move toward the well-being and prosperity of farmers and those involved in animal husbandry.

The Rajasthan government has approved a grant of ₹19,800.29 crores for the cooperative department.

  • Cooperative Society Overview :
    • Rajasthan has over 1.35 crore members across 41,000 cooperative societies.
    • These societies hold more than ₹21,480 crores in share capital and over ₹1,37,096 crores in working capital.
    • About 20% of the state’s population engages with the cooperative sector, underscoring its vital role in rural development.
  • Target for Crop Loans :
    • This financial year aims to distribute ₹23,000 crores in crop loans and enroll 5 lakh new members in cooperative societies.
    • By July 24, 2024, short-term crop loans have already reached 24 lakh farmers.
  • Increased Loan Limits and Subsidies :
    • The maximum loan from cooperative banks will rise from ₹50 crores to ₹100 crores.
    • The interest subsidy for timely loan repayments has increased from 5% to 7%, encouraging prompt repayment and supporting cooperative lending.
  • Plans to Increase Warehouse Capacity :
    • New warehouses will constructed with capacities of up to 500 metric tons, growing from the previous 100 metric tons.
    • The budget for this expansion has nearly tripled to ₹35 crores to ensure ample storage for agricultural products.
