Benefits under Sainik Samman Scheme :
Changes Brought in the Sainik Samman Scheme :
- 60% of Agni Veer soldiers will granted permanent status, including all technical post Agni Veer soldiers.
- The training period has been extended to 42 weeks, and the service period has been increased to 7 years.
- Job guarantee has been introduced post-service.
- Salary and the number of posts have been augmented.
- The leave entitlement has been extended from 30 days to 45 days.
- The retirement fund has been enhanced to Rs. 41 lakhs.
- A 15% relaxation will apply to all central vacancies.
- In case of death, Agniveer soldiers will recognized as martyrs, and their families will receive Rs. 75 lakhs in assistance from the central government.
- All soldiers recruited under the Sainik Samman Scheme will no longer referred to as Agni

Procedure To Apply Under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana :
- Visit the office of the Freedom Fighter Division, Ministry of Home Affairs – mha.gov.in
- Request the application form from the office.
- Fill out the application form in the prescribed format.
- Attach all the required documents to the application form.
- Submit the completed form to the Chief Secretary of the state government or Union Territory administration concerned.
Eligibility Criteria of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana :
- Imprisonment Before Independence : Minimum of 6 months imprisonment in mainland jail.
- Ex-INA Personnel : Eligible if imprisoned or detained outside India.
- Women and SC / ST Freedom Fighters : Minimum period of actual imprisonment is 3 months.
- Underground : Remained underground for more than 6 months due to an arrest warrant or detention order.
- Internment / Exile : Interned in home or externed from district for 6 months or more.
- Property Confiscation : Property confiscated, attached, and sold due to participation in the freedom struggle.
- Permanent Incapacitation : Suffered permanent incapacitation during firing or lathi charge.
- Loss of Livelihood : Lost job and means of livelihood due to participation in the national movement.
- Family of Martyr : Eligible for pension.

Note: Only one eligible dependent will granted a pension. The sequence of eligibility, if there is more than one dependent, is as follows : Widower / Widow, unmarried daughter, mother, and father.
Continuation Of Pension Till 2025-26 :
1. Approval : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana for the financial years 2021 – 22 to 2025 – 26.
2. Proposal Origin : Received from the Ministry of Home Affairs under Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
3. Significance : Decision taken during Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to honour the commitment to remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
4. Budget Allocation : Rs 3274.87 crore allocated for the scheme’s implementation.
5. Beneficiaries : Currently, 23,566 beneficiaries across the country covered under the scheme.
6. Pension Adjustments :
- The government has periodically raised the pension amount.
- Dearness relief on the pension amount has been provided since 15 August 2016.
