Current Changes made Maharashtra RTE Admissions :
  • Initially, Maharashtra’s RTE admission process faced difficulties due to a new state government rule prioritising Marathi medium schools for RTE quota seats.
  • This rule prevented students from applying to existing English medium schools, leading to challenges in the admission process.
  • The Bombay High Court intervened and upheld the government’s February 2024 notification, allowing students to apply to old English medium schools under RTE.
  • The admission process underwent a fresh start after the Bombay High Court temporarily halted the recent state government rule.
  • The rule, implemented in February 2024, permitted private unaided schools to participate in the RTE quota, reserving 25% of seats for underprivileged children if no government or aided schools were available within a 1-kilometer radius.
