The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on May 1, 2016. The scheme is managed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Through PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), LPG connections are provided to poor families and ration cardholders across the country, aiming to replace traditional wood and coal stoves with cleaner cooking options. This initiative helps to eliminate the reliance on wood and coal stoves, reducing environmental pollution. Gas cylinders are provided free of charge to all beneficiaries.

Documents Required for PM Ujjwala Yojana :

• Proof of Identity and Address (Aadhaar Card) : Aadhaar Card of the applicant, serving as both Proof of Identity and Address if residing at the same address as mentioned in Aadhaar. (Not mandatory for Assam and Meghalaya).
• Proof of Family Composition (For Migrant Applicants) : Ration Card issued by the State from which the application is being made, or any other State Government document certifying family composition, or Self-Declaration as per Annexure I.
• Aadhaar Details of Beneficiaries : Aadhaar details of the beneficiary and adult family members as appearing in the document at Sl. 3.
• Bank Account Information : Bank Account Number and IFSC code.
• Supplementary KYC Documentation : Additional documentation supporting the family status, if required.

Eligibility Criteria for Ujjwala 3.0 :

• Age Requirement : The applicant (woman only) must be at least 18 years old.
• Household LPG Connection Status : There should not be any existing LPG connection from any Oil Marketing Company (OMC) in the same household.
• Applicable Categories for Eligibility – Adult women who belong to any of the following categories :
  • Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  • Beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin)
  • Most Backward Classes (MBC)
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries
  • Tea and Ex-Tea Garden tribes
  • Forest Dwellers
  • People residing in Islands and River Islands
  • Enlisted under Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) Households (AHL TIN)
  • Any Poor Household as per the 14-point declaration criteria.

How to Check PMUY New List to Avail Free LPG ?

• Visit the Official Website : Go to pmuy.gov.in.
• Access the New List : Click on the ‘New List’ option.
• Download and Verify : Download the list and check if your name is included.

Offline Application Procedure for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana :

• Obtain the Application Form : Visit the nearest LPG outlet or distribution center to get the Ujjwala Yojana application form for free. Download the form in PDF format from the designated source.
• Complete the Application Form : Fill in your name, contact details, Aadhaar Number, Jan Dhan/Bank account number, and other required information. Complete the declaration form at the end of the application.
• Choose Cylinder Option : Select one of the two cylinder options: 14.2KG or 5KG.
• Attach Required Documents : Include copies of:
  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank account statement /passbook
  • Proof of residence (e.g., electricity /telephone /water bill, lease agreement, house registration document, or flat allotment/possession letter)
• Submit the Application : Submit the completed form and attached documents at your preferred LPG outlet.
• Eligibility Verification : LPG field officials will verify the applicant’s details against SECC-2011 data for eligibility. The Ujjwala Yojana list of eligible BPL candidates can be checked on the NIC website.
• Verification and Careful Confirmation : The oil marketing company will perform an electronic de-duplication exercise and other due diligence measures.
• Issuance of Connection : If eligible, the connection will be issued by the oil marketing company. The cost of the connection will be covered by the Government.
• EMI Option : Applicants can choose the EMI option to cover the cost of the stove and the first refill of the LPG cylinder.
