What is Miqat ?
The miqat is a specific place where Muslims who going to Hajj or Umrah must enter into a state called ihram. Ihram a special state where certain activities are restricted.
There five main miqats. Four of these identified by Prophet Muhammad himself. The fifth one designated later by Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattab to accommodate pilgrims from newly added areas in Mesopotamia.
What is done at Miqat ?
Pilgrims begin their Hajj journey at a Miqat, one of five designated points before reaching Makkah. At the Miqat, they perform ritual washing, don their white garments called Ihram, pray, declare their intention (niyyah) to perform Hajj, and commence reciting the Talbiah (“Labbaika Allahuma Labbaik”).
