Bethune College Admission 2024-25

Bethune College is set to start its admission process for the academic year 2024-25. Starting from April 12, 2024, the college has initiated the start of admission forms. Prospective candidates aiming for admission in various undergraduate courses such as BA, BSc, etc., can access and complete the Bethune College Admission form through the college’s official website.

It is essential for students to ensure the timely submission of their admission forms before the closing date, which is scheduled for May 3, 2024. Admission decisions will determined based on the applicants’ performance in their respective qualifying examinations.

Recent UG ADMISSION 2024

Admission for the B.A. (Hons.)/B.Sc. (Hons.) (CBCS) Degree Course for the 2024-25 session at the of Calcutta will involve document verification and the commencement of classes on July 28, 2024 (tentatively).

For the 4-year B.A./B.Sc. (Hons. with or without Research) (CCF 2023) Degree Course for the 2024-25 session at the of Calcutta, online applications will accepted from July 1, 2024 (starting from 4 p.m.) to July 15, 2024 (until 11.59 p.m.) (tentatively) via the website bethuneadmissions.ac.in.

Seat Reservation Policy 2024 :

  • Seats are reserved for certain groups of people based on government rules.
  • For each subject, a specific number of seats is set aside for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC)-A, Other Backward Classes (OBC)-B, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.
  • Only SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates from West Bengal get reservation benefits. Candidates from other states are treated as General Category candidates.
  • Only EWS certificates issued by the Government of West Bengal in the current year are accepted for EWS reservation.
  • Currently, seats are reserved as follows: SC – 22%, ST – 6%, OBC-A – 10%, OBC-B – 7%, and EWS – 10%.
  • Additionally, 5% of seats in each category are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) who have a minimum 40% disability.

Major Courses Admission

Major Course Special Conditions
Economics A student must have passed Mathematics at the H.S. Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/Business Mathematics/Applied Mathematics. Students who have passed Business Economics with Business Mathematics at the H.S. level are also eligible. Students of Economics Major must also take up Mathematics as one of the Minor subjects.
Mathematics A student must have passed Mathematics/Applied Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. Business Mathematics passouts are not eligible for admission to the Mathematics Major Course.
Chemistry A student must have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.
Philosophy If the student has not studied Philosophy in the previous qualifying examination, Psychology/Mathematics//Sociology/Political Science can treated as related subjects.
Computer Science The Major Course requires Mathematics as one of the Minor subjects and either Physics, Statistics, or Electronics as the other Minor subject.

Some important College Rules :

1. Attendance Policy:

  • If you attend at least 75% of classes, you can sit for Semester Exams.
  • If your attendance is between 60% and 75%, you can sit for exams by paying a fee.
  • If your attendance is less than 60%, you can’t take exams and will have to repeat the semester.

2. Online Classes Requirement : You must attend online classes when your department organises them.

3. Absence Consequences : Missing more than ten days of classes without a good reason or permission may get you removed from the college register.

4. NSS Membership : You can join the NSS unit of the college.

5. Parent-Teacher Meetings : Parents or guardians are expected to attend meetings arranged by the department or college.

6. Field Trips and Internships : Botany and Zoology students must go on mandatory trips, and all students must complete summer internships.

Scholarship Scheme For Minority Students :

  • Minority students, including those from Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsee, and Sikh communities, are eligible for various scholarship schemes.
  • Scholarship options include Merit-Cum-Means, Post Matric, Pre Matric, and Talent Support Stipend (TSP) for financially disadvantaged and meritorious students.

Kanyashree Prakalpa (K1 & K2) :

  • All female students aged 18 or above, regardless of their board (HS/ISC/CBSE), are eligible for a one-time Kanyashree grant of Rs. 25,000/- during their graduation course.
  • Girls below 18 years old are typically eligible for the K1 grant.
  • Those who haven’t applied for the Kanyashree Prakalpa grant during their school years can still apply if they meet the age criteria.
  • There’s no income limit.
  • The applicant must a resident of West Bengal.

Kanyashree Prakalpa (K3):

  • A sub-scheme under the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-means Scholarship Scheme for girls pursuing Post Graduate courses.
