In order to provide qualifying students in grades 9 through 12 more time to apply for financial aid of Rs 12,000/-, the Ministry of (MoE) has extended the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) application deadline to September 30, 2024. Starting from June 30, 2024. The application procedure is managed by the state-specific SCERTs. Some of the SCERT provide online applications as an option for the applicants.

In October, states like Uttarakhand and Goa will make their NMMS Application Forms available. It is advised that students finish their applications through their educational institutions, making sure they send in the required paperwork and exam payments on time. Students can visit the official SCERTs website for comprehensive details on eligibility requirements, exam dates, and the application process.

Extended Application Deadline : The Ministry of (MoE) has extended the deadline to apply for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) to September 30, 2024.

This gives eligible students in grades 9 to 12 additional time to apply for financial support of Rs 12,000.

Applications are open for 3,314 National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships across 30 districts for eligible students in Class VIII at Government, Government Aided, or Local Body non-residential schools in Odisha.

Examination Details :

• Examination Date : The NMMS exam will take place on December 1, 2024 (first Sunday).
• Conduct : The examination will occur in one stage only.
• Examination Fees : There are no fees for the exam, but candidates must cover their travel costs to the exam center.

 

Eligibility Criteria :

• Academic Performance: General and SEBC candidates must achieve at least 55% in their Class VII Annual Examination, while reserved category candidates (SC, ST, PH) must obtain at least 50%.
• Current Enrollment: Candidates must be enrolled in Class VIII for the 2024-2025 academic year at qualifying schools.
• Parental Income: The family’s total annual income must not exceed Rs. 3,50,000 (Three Lakh Fifty Thousand).
• Ineligibility: Students in Government Residential Schools (such as Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and other residential institutions) cannot apply for this scholarship. For those at Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVS), only students without access to hostel facilities are eligible, with certification from the principal required.

State Quota Distribution :

A total of 3,314 scholarships will be divided among 30 districts. Allocations will be based on district-wise distribution for the General, SC, ST, SEBC, and Physically Handicapped categories. Should candidates not be available according to the district quota, a State merit list will be created.

Required Documents :

Candidates need to submit the following documents :

1. Caste Certificate : A recent certificate for SC /ST /SEBC candidates issued by the appropriate authority.
2. Disability Certificate : UDID Card for Physically Handicapped candidates from the District Medical Board.
3. Income Certificate : Issued by the competent authority for the current year for all candidates.
4. Supporting Documents : For children under the National Food Security Act-2013 (NFSA) or State Food Security Scheme (SFSS), documentation may be provided if the Income Certificate is missing.

Examination Centre :

• Exams will take place at Government Colleges, Government High Schools, and Elementary Teacher Training Institutes located in district or sub-division headquarters and major cities in the state.

Syllabus :

There is no specific syllabus for the NMMS Examination.

Questions will be based on the Class VII and VIII curriculam.

Selection Procedure :

Qualifying Marks :

• General and SEBC candidates need a minimum of 40% aggregate in both MAT and SAT papers.
• Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, PH) require at least 32% aggregate in both papers.

Tie-Breaking Criteria :

• If candidates have the same score, preference goes to the MAT score, followed by the candidates’ age.

Scholarship Amount :

• Selected students will receive Rs. 1,000 each month for four years (Class IX to Class XII), depending on their academic performance and enrollment in eligible institutions.

Promotion Requirements :

• Awardees must advance from Class VIII to Class IX to keep the scholarship.
• Scholarships are not provided for Diploma or Certificate level courses.

Continuation Criteria :

• To keep receiving the scholarship in Class X and XII, students must progress from Class IX to X and from Class XI to XII on their first attempt.
• A minimum of 60% marks in Class X is required, with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories.

Annual Documentation :

• Awardees must submit a continuance certificate and mark sheet from the last annual examination to their school each year after the NSP opens for renewal.
• Registration in the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is essential for scholarship eligibility; failure to register will result in loss of the scholarship.

Application Process :

• Candidates must apply online for new registrations in Class IX and for renewal registrations for Classes X to XII in the NSP. The relevant institute and district will verify eligibility each year through the National Scholarship Portal.

Stages of Examination :

Stage I :

• This stage conducted by the state as the initial screening test.
• It referred to as the State Level Talent Search Examination.
• A specific number of candidates chosen based on the state quota for the National Level Examination.

Stage II :

• This stage organized by NCERT for candidates who passed Stage I.

State Quota for Odisha :
