The RTE Act provides for the :

• RTE Act ensures free and compulsory education for children until completion of elementary education in a neighbourhood school.
• It mandates that no child should burdened with fees or expenses hindering their access to education.
• The act facilitates the admission of non-enrolled children into age-appropriate classes.
• Responsibilities of governments, local authorities, and parents are specified for providing education, along with sharing financial responsibilities between the Central and State Governments.
• Norms and standards are set for pupil-teacher ratios, infrastructure, school working days, and teacher working hours.
• It ensures the rational deployment of teachers to maintain the specified pupil-teacher ratio in each school.
• Only appropriately trained teachers are appointed, meeting necessary entry and academic qualifications.
• The act prohibits physical and mental punishment, screening procedures for admission, capitation fees, private tuition by teachers, and running of unrecognised schools.
• Curriculum development aligns with constitutional values and aims for the holistic development of children, fostering child-friendly and child-centred learning environments.

Procedure To Apply Under Tamil Nadu RTE Admission 2024-25 :

1. Visit the official TN RTE Admission website.
2. Click on the “Start Application” option on the homepage.
3. Fill in the required details on the new page:
   • Name
   • Gender
   • Date of birth
   • Password
   • Religion
   • Community
   • Mobile number
   • Email ID
   • Eligibility class as per date of birth.
4. Click on “Save” after entering the details.
5. Upon successful registration, a message confirming the registration along with the application number will displayed.
6. Click on “Click Here to Login” to proceed.
7. Enter your application number and password to login.
8. Provide parent and address details.
9. Upload all the necessary documents.
10. Select preferred schools.
11. Click on the “Submit” option to complete the application process.

Eligibility Criteria for TN RTE Admission :

• Residence : Applicants must permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.
• Eligible Categories : Children of parents from economically weaker sections, disadvantaged groups, and disadvantaged group special categories are eligible to apply.
• Priority : Preference will given to disabled children, wards of scavengers, and those infected with HIV.
• Income Limit : The family’s annual income should not exceed Rs 2 lakh.
• Age Criteria :
  • For LKG admission, the child’s date of birth must fall between 31st July 2017 to 31st July 2018.
  • For 1st standard admission, the child’s date of birth must between 31st July 2015 to 31st July 2016.
• Eligible Categories : Applicants from various categories including BC-others, MBC, ST, SC-others, SC-arunthathiyar, OC, DNC (Denotified communities), and those from undisclosed social categories are eligible to apply.
