The Jharkhand government has launched the State Employees Health Insurance Scheme. The SEHIS portal is overseen by the Department of Health, Medical Education & Family Welfare oversees. It provides cashless and paperless medical insurance coverage to state government employees, retirees, and their qualified family members.
It was formally introduced by Honorable Chief Minister Hemant Soren on February 28, 2025. This program demonstrates the state’s dedication to enhance the healthcare system and safeguarding the welfare of its employees.
In alliance with the Tata AIG General Insurance Company Limited, SEHIS provides coverage to qualified members for a small monthly cost of ₹500. The program aims to give state employees and retirees throughout Jharkhand financial risk protection against unanticipated medical bills as well as a healthier and safer future.

Objectives of SEHIS :
The primary aims of the SEHIS Program are :

Streamlining the process of getting health insurance benefits through an online portal.
Benefits of SEHIS :

General Health Coverage: For up to ₹5 lakh per annum.

Critical Illness Coverage: For up to ₹10 lakh per annum.

Additional Coverage: It may exceed ₹10 lakh based on specific conditions for Categories A and B, coverage.

Air Ambulance Facility: Only available under special circumstances for critical patients.

Cashless Treatment: Under registered government and private hospitals.
Documents for Registration :
The following documents need to be provided during the registration process :

A valid email ID and mobile number.

Aadhaar Card as proof for address.

Employment-related information like Employee ID and Department details.

For pensioners the Pension Payment Order (PPO) number.

A GPF/PRAN number.

If applicable bank account details for premium payment.
Registration Process :
Registration for SEHIS via the official portal :
Visit the Official Website of SEHIS – sehis.jharkhand.gov.in

On the homepage click on ‘Register‘ tab.
↓
Fill in details like your name, email ID, mobile number, create a password, and enter the captcha code.
↓
After completion click on ‘Register’ button to complete the process.
↓
To login to the SEHIS portal use your registered mobile number and password.
↓
Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number to proceed.
↓
Click on the option ‘New Application‘ and start with your application.
↓
Provide all the required information and upload necessary documents to complete the application form.
↓
The last step is to review and submit your application.
↓
After submission and review now download the acknowledgment receipt for future reference
Approval Process for Application :
After the application is submission :

The respective department heads and Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) verifies the information.

After approval, the data is sent to the insurance company for policy issuance.

After policy issuance the applicants are notified via SMS or email regarding the status of their application.
Eligibility Criteria: For SEHIS
The SEHIS program covers four categories of beneficiaries:
Category A :

Present members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
-
Ruling state government employees.
Category B :
-
State government employees and family pensioners who are retired.

Ex – Members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.

Retired and serving officers of the All India Services.
-
Serving/retired employees of the state government boards, corporations, institutions.
-
Serving/retired Non-teaching and Teaching staff of state universities and affiliated colleges.
C Category :
-
Registered advocates under the Jharkhand Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee.
Dependents :
-
Unmarried/widowed/divorced daughters, spouse, up to 25 years children if unemployed.

Dependent parents with specific income criteria.
-
Dependent siblings like minor brothers and unmarried sisters.
-
For female employees, either parents or parents-in-law can be considered as dependents.

Coverage for life for differently-abled dependents.
Download the E-Health Card :
Post approval :

Go to the Health Card Portal – jharkhandemployee.mdindia.com/CheckStatus.aspx.

Fill in all the required details like your mobile number, GPF number, or PPO number.

Now to search for your health card click on ‘Search’ tab.

At last click on ‘Print Ecard’ or ‘Print M-Card’ to download your e-health card.
Premium Payment Details :

The monthly premium for eligible categories is ₹500.

Payment can be done online through the SEHIS portal during application.

Note: For certain categories premium payment is mandatory, while others may be exempt based on government provisions.
Hospitals Under SEHIS Scheme :
The SEHIS scheme has a network of registered hospitals, including:

All government hospitals within the state of Jharkhand.

Some selected private hospitals throughout the state.

Hospitals outside Jharkhand for specialized treatments with subject to approval.
Beneficiaries can also get access to cashless treatment at these hospitals by presenting their e-health card.
